François X. Sillion graduated from the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, France with a PhD in Computer Science. He is now a senior researcher with INRIA in the iMAGIS research project (joint project with CNRS, INPG and UJF) in Grenoble, France. He has been conducting research in Computer Graphics since 1986, on topics ranging from realistic image synthesis to interactive visualization. In particular, he has worked on the simulation of light exchanges for non-diffuse surfaces, on the prediction of general reflectance properties, on the definition of efficient algorithms for hierarchical radiosity and clustering, including the treatment of dynamic scenes, and on the visual simplification of complex scenes for a more efficient visualization. Sillion published, with Claude Puech, a comprehensive book on the radiosity technique. He is also an associate professor at Ecole Polytechnique in Palaiseau, France. Sillion is an associate editor of ACM Transactions on graphics, and is on the editorial board of Computer Graphics Forum. He has served in the program commitees of many international conferences including several SIGGRAPH and EUROGRAPHICS conferences. Sillion is on the EUROGRAPHICS executive committee since 1997. He chairs the EUROGRAPHICS working group on rendering, which organizes a very successful workshop every year. He serves as one of the editors of the EUROGRAPHICS/Springer-Wien book series. He is a member of the IEEE Computer Society and of ACM SIGGRAPH.
